Visitors Guide to Sandia Mountains

Visitors Guide to Sandia Mountains: The Sandia Mountains outside of Albuquerque have long been both a playground and a place of spiritual refuge for the inhabitants of New Mexico's largest city. Much of the rugged mountain range is a designated wilderness bisected by Sandia Crest Scenic Byway, which makes the 10,678-foot crest easily accessible by automobile. Hiking, mountain biking outside the wilderness, cross-country and downhill skiing are but a few of the many recreational opportunities found in the mountains.
